SMALL SPACE, MEDITERRANEAN SOUL

A Powder Room Redesign in Charleston, SC

Powder rooms are where I love to be bold. Small square footage means every single decision matters — and when every decision matters, the room has no choice but to feel intentional.

A MOODY MEDITERRANEAN POWDER BATH

This project started with a question I ask myself at the beginning of every small space: what if we treated this powder room like a piece of art? Not a functional afterthought, not a safe neutral — but a room with a real point of view. A room that makes you feel something the moment you step inside.

The answer, as always, was to commit fully and go all in.

THE DESIGN DIRECTION

The inspiration was deeply Mediterranean — earthy, textured, and unhurried. Think the sun-washed walls of Sicily, the rustic plaster of an Andalusian courtyard, the warmth of a Southern European home that has aged beautifully over decades. That sensory richness was the reference point for every choice we made.

THE MATERIAL STORY

The floor set the tone for everything. A star and cross pattern in a warm natural greige — a classic Mediterranean motif that references old-world craftsmanship. The pattern and the lighter palette of the tile work together to visually expand the room, making the space feel wider than it is.

Against that, the walls go deep. A rich fresco green by Pure & Original — applied in a way that creates texture and movement on the surface, the way plaster does in an old European villa. It's the kind of finish that looks different in morning light than it does in candlelight. That's intentional. A room should have layers you keep discovering.

The built-in vanity provides a moment of refinement — lighter in tone, luxurious in finish — creating a beautiful tension against the moody walls around it. Brass hardware and rattan accents bring warmth and organic texture, the finishing notes that make the whole room feel grounded and alive.

That's the Studio Miles approach in every project, regardless of scale. Every room deserves to be considered. Every detail has a reason. And quiet luxury doesn't mean playing it safe — it means making bold choices with intention.
